Instructor

David Porter

David Porter is celebrated for his exceptional submission prowess, especially his legendary D’arce choke. His mastery of the position earned him the nickname “D’arce Vader” and a place in the Finishers Sub Only Hall of Fame, with an incredible 92% submission rate. After transitioning from a professional MMA career, David became one of the most sought-after instructors in jiu-jitsu, teaching seminars around the world and sharing his knowledge through instructional platforms like BJJ Fanatics. He is currently the head jiu-jitsu instructor at XCal in Ashburn, Virginia.

What most people never saw is that from mid-2024 through November 2025, David was quietly undergoing cancer treatments. During that time, he continued teaching at his academy, running seminars, and even competing successfully, all while only sharing what he was facing with a very small inner circle. That kind of resilience speaks volumes about who he is. Heart of a true warrior.

This will be David’s fourth time teaching at the camp, and he remains a favorite among attendees for his sharp humor and his rare ability to break down complex ideas into details that actually stick.

Host/Instrcutor

Bill Jones

Bill Jones brings over four decades of martial arts experience to the mat, beginning his training in 1984 and spanning multiple disciplines before fully immersing himself in jiu-jitsu. Known for his ability to connect deep fundamentals with real-world application, Bill has built a reputation as both a technical instructor and a thoughtful coach who understands how people actually learn.

In the early 2000s, Bill competed in what is now known as Kudo, earning a national ranking of 4th in the United States in 2002 and 2nd in 2004. He was invited to compete at the World Championships in 2004, an opportunity ultimately limited by military service obligations. That blend of high-level competition and military discipline continues to shape his approach to training and leadership today.

Now in his late 40s, Bill still competes semi-regularly and leads Top Level Jiu-Jitsu Academy with a focus on longevity, problem-solving, and intelligent training. His teaching emphasizes clarity, efficiency, and details that hold up under pressure, making his instruction equally valuable for newer students and experienced grapplers looking to refine their game.

Known for his sharp positional control and finishing ability, Brad brings a competition-tested approach that blends pressure, precision, and creativity.

His accomplishments include No-Gi Pan American Champion at brown belt, Midwest Finishers 185 lb Champion, and a PGF team championship win. Brad’s game is built around control-first systems that consistently lead to high-percentage finishes, even against elite opposition.

At camp, Brad will focus on the crucifix and reverse half guard, two areas where he has developed deep expertise.
